TodayShow.com has a great reason to keep eating blueberries (my new favorite fruit): they are a memory-boosting food. “Berries have some of the highest antioxidant concentrations among fruit, and ALL berries are rich in healthy compounds called anthocyanins and flavanols… which may help protect against the breakdown of brain cells.” Good to know.
In case you need some help finding great local blueberries, the Houstonist blog just posted a very complete listing of all the farmers markets in Houston. I’ve been to a few, but this gives me many more options. Since I started eating better, I’m always looking for good sources of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Pasadena students could soon receive a better education in history after the school district was awarded the Teaching American History Grant.
The Pasadena school district is the newest recipient of the grant aimed at simultaneously improving students’ history knowledge and teachers’ classroom skills.

I went to a meeting at Poncho’s Grill on Strawberry yesterday. It’s this new-ish place that I wouldn’t have seen at all because I avoid Strawberry to avoid the congestion and construction surrounding the Strawberry @ Pasadena Blvd. intersection.
The place itself is not bad.
The meeting included a buffet-style hors d’eavures. There was a selection of salsas. One container, which held a safe-looking avocado-type salsa, was simply labeled “House.” I made a big mistake and poured generously on my food without tasting it first.
One bite and my mouth was on fire. I couldn’t taste the food, couldn’t drink enough or eat enough chips to make it stop.
So you’ve been warned… beware the green stuff.

A trip through the heart of the nature center presents an uncommon way to watch and learn about wildlife.
Ages 5 and older may participate. Cost varies from $10 to $25. Reservations are required.
Call 281-474-2551 or visit www.abnc.org for more information.
