beware the green stuff

Posted in General at 4:18 pm by Paloma Cruz

I went to a meeting at Poncho’s Grill on Strawberry yesterday. It’s this new-ish place that I wouldn’t have seen at all because I avoid Strawberry to avoid the congestion and construction surrounding the Strawberry @ Pasadena Blvd. intersection.

The place itself is not bad.

The meeting included a buffet-style hors d’eavures. There was a selection of salsas. One container, which held a safe-looking avocado-type salsa, was simply labeled “House.” I made a big mistake and poured generously on my food without tasting it first.

One bite and my mouth was on fire. I couldn’t taste the food, couldn’t drink enough or eat enough chips to make it stop.

So you’ve been warned… beware the green stuff.

Galveston beach party

Posted in News at 3:47 am by Paloma Cruz

The annual Galveston beach party is this weekend. I’d stay out of Galveston until it’s over.

Optimistically, the news are reporting that the party is going to be… smaller this year than in previous years. I’m still staying away.

is the economy getting better?

Posted in News at 12:44 am by Paloma Cruz

The Associated Press is reporting that jobless benefits claims edged slightly last week. This, the article states, signals “that the labor market remains generally healthy.”

I’m not an economist, but that seems a very simplistic interpretation of something that is probably due to many many things.
