Kroger Co. has sold portfolio of nine Kroger-anchored shopping centers, including one in Pasadena, for $79.9 million.

The Pasadena store is located at the 80,738-square-foot Kroger Junction shopping center at 2619 Red Bluff Road.

Kroger had owned all of the shopping centers, which collectively total almost 810,000 square feet, for several years. As part of the agreement, Kroger has signed long-term, 15-year leases to continue its operations in each of the nine Kroger grocery stores.

The agreement also affords Kroger the right to add fuel stations to some of the properties.

plans for Strawberry

Church land is sticking point in Strawberry Road’s future
Second Baptist, Pasadena council need to start talks

– reported by the Houston Chronicle(1)

The majority of Pasadena City Council members say they support moving forward with the plan to extend Strawberry Road, but the projected cost of more than $10 million is a concern to others.

Mayor John Manlove polled the council last Thursday at the end of a two-hour discussion workshop on the project.

Engineers and other project consultants at the workshop updated the council on what has taken place toward determining the extension route and acquiring the needed land.

Under the existing plan, Strawberry would be extended about a mile northward from Harris Street along the east side of Little Vince Bayou to intersect with Pasadena Boulevard at Park Lane, just north of Jackson Street.

Land acquisition is well under way. Of 33 Scott Street houses slated for demolition, 25 have been purchased.

The major unknown factor in completing the project, speakers said at the Dec. 15 workshop, is the cost of property owned by Second Baptist Church. The church’s gym at 1302 Scott is in the extension’s proposed path.

Pasadena grant funding

Pasadena gives nod to agency grants
– reported by the Houston Chronicle(1)

Pasadena City Council on Tuesday gave final approval to funding for most of the social service agencies slated for federal grants.

About a dozen Pasadena agencies are earmarked to receive $305,000 in Community Development Block Grants, and four others will receive about $85,500 through the federal Emergency Shelter Grants program. Locally, the recipients are chosen by a volunteer committee that reviews applications.

The agreement with Bethany Place passed on first reading Tuesday, with Harrison casting the lone dissenting vote without an explanation. Bethany Place is designated to get $70,000 in CDBG funds, the largest of Pasadena’s awards. It is also slated for $15,000 in Emergency Shelter Grant funds.

Pasadena’s total funding for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1 is about $2.2 million, just under last year’s $2.34 million. Up to 15 percent of the grant can be awarded to social agencies.

This story about a new show in Pasadena just sounded too cute to pass up:

Pasadena debuts ‘Nuncrackers’

The nuns are at it again at the Pasadena Little Theatre premiere of Nuncrackers, a musical by Dan Goggins.

Based on the original musical, Nunsense, the nuns are striving to put on a Christmas their community won’t soon forget. The nuns, Father Virgil and local children offer a cast that’s sure to entertain.

I probably won’t make it out. But if one of you does watch the show, let me know if it’s any good.
